For Alexandra Cannon, a dedicated junior in high school, education has always been more than just a personal privilege, it’s a gift she hopes to share with others. As one of SmartKids Ghana’s newest volunteer Zoom Teachers, Alexandra is using her compassion and sense of responsibility to help bridge educational gaps and create meaningful opportunities for students across Ghana.
Alexandra’s passion for helping others started early. While in middle school, she took part in a mentoring program where she worked closely with younger students, offering guidance, support, and encouragement. That experience opened her eyes to the power of mentorship and the realization that even small acts of kindness and time can have a lasting impact on someone else’s life.
Though she hasn’t yet taught through virtual platforms, Alexandra is eager to learn and adapt. Her enthusiasm, empathy, and willingness to grow make her the kind of volunteer who brings both heart and humility to the role. She understands that teaching isn’t just about sharing knowledge it’s about building confidence and connection.
“I want to be a teacher with SmartKids Ghana because of their initiative,” Alexandra shares. “I’ve been blessed to go to great schools my whole life and never had to worry about my teacher not being available or not having the correct supplies. I want to bring the opportunities I’ve had to others, and this is a great way for me to do it.”
Her words capture the essence of what SmartKids Ghana stands for students around the world using their education to empower others. Alexandra’s sense of gratitude and global-mindedness remind us that true leadership begins with empathy and a desire to give back.
We’re thrilled to welcome Alexandra Cannon to the SmartKids Ghana family, a compassionate, motivated, and thoughtful young leader who is ready to inspire and uplift students through the power of education.
