At Bishop Fenwick High School, Alexandra Casamassima is recognized for her remarkable enthusiasm for both learning and teaching. As an 11th-grade student, she demonstrates a genuine commitment to education that extends well beyond her school environment. Each week, Alexandra teaches religious education to second-grade students at her parish, a role that has strengthened her leadership, deepened her empathy, and given her the rewarding experience of shaping young minds through patience and care.
Now, Alexandra is expanding her reach by joining SmartKids Ghana as a volunteer Zoom Teacher, bringing her passion for education to students across the globe. Though she has not previously taught in a virtual setting, her strong sense of purpose, patience, and compassion make her well-equipped to connect with children in Ghana and help make learning more engaging and accessible.
When asked why she wanted to join SmartKids Ghana, Alexandra shared a thoughtful reflection that captures the heart of her motivation:
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to live in an area rich with the newest technologies and so many things to explore and learn about. I am aware how privileged I am to go to the school that I go to with the teachers that I have, and I think I would not be utilizing my education to its full potential by not sharing it with others. Education and teaching is also my passion because I have loved school my whole life and my dream is to one day open my own school.”
Alexandra’s words reflect not only humility and gratitude but also a deep understanding of what it means to give back. She recognizes that education is both a gift and a responsibility, something to be shared generously with others who may not have the same access. Her dream of one day opening her own school demonstrates a forward-thinking vision and a lifelong dedication to making a difference through learning.
