A New Dawn for Learning and Technology in Rural Ghana
The project aims to bridge the educational and technological gap faced by children in rural Ghana by providing access to a modern, well-equipped learning environment. For years, children in Dzogbove and its neighboring communities have struggled to learn due to the absence of educational facilities, libraries, and digital tools.
Why This Project Matters
When SmartKids Ghana first visited Dzogbove, we discovered that there was only one school in the community which is a government primary school. Unfortunately, the school lacked the essential facilities expected of a healthy learning environment. Most of the classrooms were under-equipped, and students had never experienced a library or science laboratory before.
The lack of resources and exposure has affected the learning abilities of many children. None of them had access to computers or ICT tools, which are critical to modern education. In addition, some nearby villages lack electricity, making it even more difficult for children to study at night.
The SmartKids Modern Library Complex will change this narrative. It will bring quality education, technology, and exposure right to the doorstep of the community.
The Vision of the Library Complex
The SmartKids Modern Library Complex will be a center of excellence for knowledge, innovation, and global connection. It will include:
Children’s Library and Reading Lounge: A well-structured reading area with both physical and digital books, designed to build literacy and creativity among children.
ICT and Coding Laboratory: A modern technology lab where students will learn computer literacy, coding, and robotics. The lab will provide free access to laptops and internet facilities.
STEM and Science Hub: A practical learning space for experiments, science fairs, and innovation projects that will ignite curiosity in young minds.
24-Hour Powered Learning Environment: The complex will have uninterrupted electricity, allowing children from Dzogbove and surrounding communities to learn at any time of the day or night.
Residence for Volunteers and Ambassadors: A dedicated living space will host both local and international volunteers who will teach, mentor, and support ongoing programs.
Expanding Global Impact Through International Collaboration
A unique feature of this project is its commitment to global education and cultural exchange. Each year, SmartKids Ghana will host international student ambassadors and volunteers from partner institutions across the world.
These students will stay at the Dzogbove Library Complex for two to three weeks, conducting workshops, teaching new educational methods, and sharing experiences with Ghanaian students and teachers. The collaboration will not only strengthen learning in science, technology, critical thinking, and creative arts but also expose both local and international students to cross-cultural learning and teamwork.
Through these exchanges, young people from Ghana will gain new perspectives on global education, while visiting students will experience firsthand the resilience, creativity, and potential of Ghanaian children. Together, they will participate in community service projects such as environmental cleanups, health education, and youth mentorship programs.
Project Timeline and Cost
Phase 1: Construction of the main library and ICT block – January 2026 to August 2026
Phase 2: Development of the STEM Innovation Hub and Reading Lounge – September 2026 to May 2027
Phase 3: Completion of volunteer residences and community facilities – June 2027 to July 2027
The estimated total project cost is $75,000 USD. This budget will cover construction, furnishing, solar power installation, ICT equipment, books, and volunteer accommodations.
Lasting Community Impact
This project will serve children and families from Dzogbove and neighboring communities including Koshikofe, Galo, Sota, Jisakope, and Apinkpo. It will support students in their schoolwork, host evening study sessions, and provide continuous access to books and digital resources.
The center will also train teachers and community leaders to use technology in education, ensuring long-term sustainability and impact. The SmartKids Library will be a beacon of hope, a place where children learn, innovate, and dream beyond their boundaries.
