SmartKids Ghana is proud to welcome Satya Divakaruni, a Grade 11 student at Shrewsbury High School, as one of our newest Zoom Teachers and Student Ambassadors.

Satya joins us as a first-time volunteer, committing to a six-week Saturday teaching block and completing her fundraising efforts with dedication and purpose. But for her, this opportunity is about much more than fulfilling a commitment, it’s about giving back in a deeply meaningful way.

A Passion for Teaching That Goes Beyond the Classroom

Satya brings both experience and enthusiasm to her role. She has previously tutored students over Zoom in subjects such as English and Math, and has coached students preparing for speech and debate tournaments. Her comfort with virtual platforms and her ability to connect with students online make her especially well-suited for teaching across borders.

Within Shrewsbury High School, Satya is actively involved in the Peer Tutoring program and is a member of the Math and Spanish National Honor Societies, where she dedicates time to supporting fellow students academically. Beyond school, she volunteers to coach middle schoolers in speech and debate, helping them strengthen not only their public speaking skills but also their confidence. Teaching, for Satya, is not just an activity it’s a calling rooted in service and leadership.

Giving Back What She’s Been Given

When asked why she wants to be a Zoom teacher with SmartKids Ghana, Satya speaks from the heart:

“I’ve come to realize that my academic and leadership growth has been a reflection of the access I’ve had to various teachings. I want to give back to communities to give them the opportunity to have the same access that I am grateful for.”

This understanding that access creates opportunity drives her commitment. Satya recognizes that her own growth has been shaped by mentors, educators, and resources that not every student has. By volunteering with SmartKids Ghana, she hopes to help bridge that gap.

Leadership Through Service

Satya’s journey reflects a powerful combination of academic excellence, leadership, and compassion. Becoming a Zoom teacher with SmartKids Ghana is a natural extension of the experiences she has cultivated through tutoring, mentoring, and coaching. It reinforces her belief that education is one of the most powerful tools for empowerment.

As she begins her six-week teaching block, Satya is not only stepping into the role of educator, she is stepping into the role of global changemaker.
