December was a momentous month for SmartKids Ghana as we welcomed Kael Detert, a passionate student ambassador and advocate for digital education, to our beautiful country Ghana. His visit was packed with impactful activities, cultural exchanges, and unforgettable moments that highlighted the spirit of collaboration.
Arrival in Ghana: A Warm Welcome
Kael’s journey began at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, where our team greeted him with excitement. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation for the incredible days ahead. After a brief orientation and rest, Kael was ready to immerse himself in the vibrant culture and mission of SmartKids Ghana.
Journey to the Volta Region ( Dzogborve)
Our first major stop was the Volta Region, where Kael had the honor of meeting the chiefs and queens of the local community called Dzogborve. The purpose of this visit was both ceremonial and significant, the community had generously offered land for SmartKids Ghana to build a learning center.
The meeting was a profound cultural experience. Dressed in traditional attire, the community leaders welcomed Kael with heartfelt speeches, and traditional drumming. Discussions centered on the vision for the learning center, its potential to transform education in the region, and the collaboration needed to bring this dream to life. Kael expressed his gratitude and shared inspiring words of commitment to this shared goal.
Team Dinners Strengthening Bonds
Throughout his visit, Kael joined the SmartKids Ghana team for several dinners that offered moments of relaxation. These gatherings were not just about sharing meals but also about exchanging ideas, reflecting on the progress made, and envisioning the future. Laughter, stories, and the rich flavors of Ghanaian cuisine made each dinner a celebration of unity and purpose.
Exploring Ghanaian Heritage A Visit to the Museum and Osu Castle
No trip to Ghana is complete without exploring its rich history and culture. Kael visited Ghana’s renowned museums, where he delved into the country’s fascinating past. From artifacts and exhibits to tales of resilience and innovation, the experience was both enlightening, offering a deeper understanding of the heritage that shapes the nation’s identity.
Also, one of the highlights of Kael’s visit was his trip to the Osu Castle in Accra, a historic landmark rich in cultural and political significance. This visit offered him a deeper understanding of Ghana’s heritage and history, adding a meaningful layer to his experience.
Teaching at Esaase Methodist Primary School
The highlight of Kael’s visit was his time spent teaching scholars at Esaase Methodist Primary School. His sessions were engaging, interactive, and filled with energy. Kael’s passion for education shone brightly as he shared knowledge, encouraged critical thinking, and motivated the scholars to dream big. The scholars were captivated by his teaching style, and their enthusiasm was a testament to the power of meaningful educational interactions.
