Ambassador Spotlight: Meet Zoom Teacher Katie Oed

At SmartKids Ghana, our Student Ambassadors come from all over the world, each bringing unique experiences, passions, and dreams to share with our scholars. Today, we are excited to introduce Katie Oed, a high school student at The John Cooper School, who  joined our Zoom Teaching Program in July.

Katie is a 12th grader with a big heart for helping others. At home, she often tutors her two younger sisters with their schoolwork, something that has inspired her love for teaching and mentoring. Now, she’s bringing that same dedication and kindness to SmartKids Ghana.

When asked why she chose to become a Zoom Teacher, Katie shared:

I am very passionate about giving back to the community, especially those who are less fortunate. This is a great opportunity for me to do so in a creative and fun way. I also enjoy teaching and helping children, so doing that will be a good experience. It is also a dream of mine to visit Africa one day and help give back, and this is one step closer to doing so.”

Katie’s passion for giving back shines through her words, and we know her impact will be felt strongly in our classrooms. Her scheduled teaching dates are July 5 – July 26, 2025, where she will guide scholars through engaging and interactive lessons designed to build confidence and inspire curiosity.

In addition to teaching, Katie is also taking on the ambassador fundraising challenge. Each Zoom teacher has a fundraising goal of $250 that supports transportation, logistics, and learning resources for scholars. Katie has embraced this responsibility, knowing that every contribution helps create opportunities for scholars who deserve the best education possible.

We are thrilled to welcome Katie to the SmartKids Ghana family. With her enthusiasm, compassion, and drive to make a difference, she is not only teaching but also planting seeds of hope and possibility in the lives of our scholars.
