Every great teacher begins with a desire to make a difference and for Alyssa Tucker, an 11th-grade student at Bishop Fenwick High School, that desire runs deep. As one of SmartKids Ghana’s newest volunteer Zoom Teachers, Alyssa is stepping forward with a heart full of empathy and a strong sense of purpose.

For Alyssa, this opportunity is more than just an extracurricular, it’s the beginning of a lifelong dream. “I have always considered being a teacher, and when this opportunity came up, I immediately knew I needed to take it,” she shares. Her words reflect a maturity and clarity that define her character: someone who doesn’t just imagine change, but takes real steps toward making it happen.

Although Alyssa hasn’t yet had formal teaching experience, her willingness to learn, grow, and give her best effort is exactly what makes her special. She has presented over Zoom for school and events in the past, and she’s now ready to use that experience to connect with young learners across Ghana sharing not just lessons, but kindness, curiosity, and encouragement.

Alyssa’s passion for helping others was also inspired by her cousin, who has participated in multiple mission trips to Africa. Through hearing about those journeys and the meaningful connections her cousin formed, Alyssa developed a deep appreciation for service and cultural exchange. “I have heard so much about her experiences and the things she witnessed that I felt a strong need to help in the ways I am able to, such as this,” she says.

Now, through SmartKids Ghana’s virtual teaching program, Alyssa is turning that inspiration into action. By volunteering her time and energy, she’s helping ensure that students in Ghana can access quality education and opportunities to dream beyond boundaries.

Alyssa embodies the kind of compassion-driven leadership that SmartKids Ghana seeks to nurture in young people around the world. Her story is a reminder that true change begins with empathy and that when one person decides to act on their desire to help, lives are transformed.
