At SmartKids Ghana, we believe that education is not just about teaching, it is about connection, transformation, and shared purpose across borders. This week, we are proud to welcome Jaimie Lim, a second-year student at the University of Rochester, whose passion for education and global health equity brings both heart and depth to our mission.

Jaimie joins us with meaningful prior teaching experience. During her summer break, she supported two students over Zoom, focusing on Chemistry, a subject they initially struggled with. Through patience, structure, and intentional guidance, she went beyond simply teaching content. She developed a personalized study plan for one of her students, helping them prepare for their final exam with confidence. That student went on to achieve the grade they had been aiming for, a reflection of Jaimie’s ability to not only teach, but to truly empower.

Her commitment to education is deeply rooted in a broader vision. At the University of Rochester, Jaimie is actively involved in UR Hope, an organization dedicated to advancing health equity within the Rochester community and beyond. Through this work, she has developed a strong passion for addressing health disparities and improving health literacy in underserved communities. This perspective strengthens her approach as an educator, one that understands learning as a tool for equity, dignity, and opportunity.

When asked why she wanted to join SmartKids Ghana as a Zoom teacher, Jaimie shared a powerful motivation, a desire to connect her local and global experiences in service of others. She expressed excitement about engaging with students in Ghana, supporting their academic growth, and contributing to a program built on education, connection, and global impact. Her words reflect a young leader who sees teaching not as a task, but as a bridge between communities and futures.
