Meet Sofia Arias – SmartKids Ghana Zoom Teacher

SmartKids Ghana is proud to welcome Sofia Arias, a rising 12th grader at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, to our incredible team of Zoom teachers.

With her strong background in both volunteering and tutoring, Sofia is well prepared to contribute meaningfully in this role. She has served at Camp Live Oak, supported families through Craig’s Pantry, and contributed to the Broward community as a member of Florida Girls Giving Back. In addition, she has spent much of her high school journey tutoring through NHS, NSHS, Rho Kappa, NEHS, and more building strong skills in teaching, mentorship, and service.

Sofia is no stranger to virtual teaching either. She previously presented and taught through Zoom for her SAT tutoring class, giving her valuable experience in keeping students engaged and supported online. Her passion for education shines through her reason for joining SmartKids Ghana:

“I truly enjoy teaching and helping others. I believe education is a privilege and should be accessible to everyone. By partaking in this, I hope to positively impact others and help change the world for the better.”

Sofia first learned about SmartKids Ghana during the Harvard MEDscience Program, where she had the opportunity to meet Emma, one of the organization’s leaders. Inspired by Emma and the mission of SmartKids Ghana, Sofia felt called to contribute her time, skills, and heart toward advancing education for children in Ghana.

Alongside teaching, Sofia has also taken on the responsibility of fundraising to support SmartKids Ghana’s programs. Each Zoom teacher commits to raising funds that cover internet access, transportation, and learning resources for scholars. Through this effort, Sofia is not only teaching but also helping sustain the very program that empowers students in Ghana to gain access to quality education.

We are thrilled to have Sofia on board, and we can’t wait to see the incredible impact she will make as she teaches, mentors, and inspires our scholars.
