At SmartKids Ghana, we are continually inspired by young people who choose to use their time, talents, and passion to make a difference in the lives of others. One of these remarkable individuals is Eliana Vakhutinsky, a dedicated student, mentor, and aspiring educator who believes in the power of learning and meaningful human connection.
Eliana is currently a student at Sharon High School and has recently completed 9th grade. As she prepares to enter 10th grade, she is already building valuable leadership and teaching experience through her involvement in educational and mentorship programs within her community.
Her passion for helping others learn began through opportunities to work directly with students and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Eliana is an active member of the Mentor ARC Club in Sharon, Massachusetts, where she has participated in online mentoring and educational activities designed to support and encourage learners. Through this experience, she has developed important skills in communication, patience, and leadership.
In addition to her work with Mentor ARC, Eliana participated in ENGin, a virtual language-learning program that connects English-speaking volunteers with individuals seeking to improve their English language skills. Through weekly Zoom sessions, she taught English to a learner, helping them build confidence and strengthen their communication abilities. This experience not only enhanced her teaching skills but also allowed her to connect with someone from a different background and gain a deeper appreciation for the value of cultural exchange.
Beyond formal tutoring programs, Eliana has also tutored multiple children and worked as a babysitter, giving her extensive experience interacting with young learners. These opportunities have taught her how to engage children with different personalities, learning styles, and needs. Whether helping with academics, providing guidance, or simply encouraging a child to believe in themselves, she has consistently demonstrated a genuine commitment to supporting young people.
For Eliana, one of the most rewarding aspects of working with children is witnessing their growth over time. When asked why she wanted to become a Zoom Teacher with SmartKids Ghana, she shared:
“I want to be a Zoom Teacher with SmartKids Ghana because I really enjoy working with kids. I love seeing their progress and being able to contribute to it. I have tutored multiple kids before and also babysat, so I have experience working with children. This opportunity interested me because working with different people is always interesting, and I know I can learn from the experience too.”
Her response reflects a mindset that aligns perfectly with the mission of SmartKids Ghana. Great teachers understand that learning is a two-way process. While scholars gain knowledge, encouragement, and support, volunteers also grow through the relationships they build and the perspectives they gain.
Eliana’s willingness to step outside of her comfort zone, connect with learners from different backgrounds, and dedicate her time to helping others succeed demonstrates maturity, compassion, and a strong sense of purpose. She understands that education is not only about academic achievement but also about building confidence, creating opportunities, and inspiring future success.
As SmartKids Ghana continues working to provide quality educational opportunities for children in underserved communities, volunteers like Eliana play a critical role in advancing that mission. Her enthusiasm for learning, commitment to service, and genuine care for young people will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on the scholars she teaches.
We are proud to welcome Eliana Vakhutinsky to the SmartKids Ghana family and look forward to the knowledge, encouragement, and inspiration she will bring to our classrooms.
Thank you, Eliana, for choosing to share your time, talents, and passion with our scholars. Your commitment to helping others learn and grow is helping create brighter futures, one student at a time.
