Sumeyyah Laher: Teaching With Purpose, Compassion, And Heart

For Sumeyyah Laher, education is far more than simply learning lessons or completing assignments, it is about creating opportunities, building confidence, and helping others feel supported in their journey to succeed. As an 11th-grade student at Al Noor Academy, Sumeyyah carries a deep passion for service and a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Over the past few years, she has dedicated her time to tutoring middle school students over Zoom, helping them better understand their studies while building an encouraging and supportive learning environment. Through this experience, Sumeyyah developed not only important technical teaching skills, but also patience, communication, and the ability to connect with students in a way that makes learning feel less intimidating and more empowering.

What makes Sumeyyah stand out is her belief that every child deserves equal access to education and the opportunity to grow. She understands that learning becomes most impactful when students feel seen, valued, and encouraged, and this belief is what inspired her to become a Zoom Teacher with SmartKids Ghana.

For her, this opportunity is not simply about teaching lessons online. It is about using her time, knowledge, and energy to uplift students across the world and contribute to something greater than herself. She wants every scholar she teaches to know that they are capable, supported, and worthy of success.

At the same time, Sumeyyah sees this experience as a journey of personal growth. She hopes that through teaching, she will continue developing greater patience, confidence, and leadership skills while learning from the students she serves. This willingness to both give and grow reflects the heart of true leadership.

Sumeyyah represents the kind of young leader the world needs: compassionate, driven, thoughtful, and committed to creating positive change. Through SmartKids Ghana, she is helping prove that distance is never a barrier when it comes to making an impact, and that one person’s willingness to serve can help shape brighter futures for countless young learners.
